Following the roaring success “Water Cooler Musical” in Chicago in 2009, we thought it was, without a doubt, high time that a similar, although obviously completely original, show was penned. As a starting point, as with all great things there must be at least one, we decided to come up with a song list for our production as we have affectionately named, “Home Water Cooler: From Thirst to Hydration”. Touching, we’re sure you’ll agree. And so, exclusively for our beloved blog readers, the first draft of the musical numbers:

It seems that being able to give good banter around the home water cooler is of utmost importance these days, and the population of America are generally inclined to agree. Although we often have a good-humoured poke at the quality and intellect of American shows, it seems that their home boys and girls feel that $15 a month, the price of a Home Box Office system, is more than worth it. Even during the recession, the HBO, a simple box that sits cosily next to the TV set, was as popular as ever, with loyal viewers thinking the fee was a small price to pay to continue to catch up/keep up with their favourite shows, and thus the home and office water cooler chat.
The secret of the product lies in the fact that the cable channels do not rely so heavily on advertising fees as terrestrial do, and can thus make money with two or three million viewers at a time (terrestrial banks on ten million). Because of this, quirkier, riskier shows are aired, which may potentially become a huge success; once you have the audience roped in, they’re yours.

Going on holiday can be stressful- you’re taking the family away and thus need to make sure that each of them is organised, stocks of sun cream, antihistamines and mozzie repellent need to be replenished, not to mention shopping for the latest trends to show off on the beach and in the local bars and restaurants. One thing that needn’t be a hassle is thinking about what will become of your home water cooler whilst your away; believe it or not, there really is no need to arrange for kennels, or for the neighbour to pop in and replenish the bottle or to clean it out, oh no. Summer time is well and truly here (well, in terms of our trusty Roman calendar telling us the sun should be out, that is…). Living in the UK, we’re all too inclined to rush out into the sun while it lasts, with little consideration for keeping ourselves happy and healthy whilst we enjoy the warmth. Being protected doesn’t have to be tiresome, and to show you, we’ve noted down a few of the things that you can do to help yourself and your family be happy in the heat!
• Investing in a home water cooler means that keeping hydrated is easy and convenient. Being refreshed means you’ll have more energy to go out and enjoy the lovely weather!
• If you suffer from hay fever, simple things such as closing windows to prevent pollen coming into the house can really help.
• Wearing sunscreen is essential, with a minimum of factor 25 or 30 for children. Being burnt is no fun at all, and can lead to longer term skin damage.
• Treat insect stings with cold water and antihistamines. If symptoms persists, always seek further professional advice.

We at Home Water Coolers just love a good old croon along to our favourite tunes, and what better way to be inspired than to listen to some of the most famous (and popular) tracks of all time which celebrate the marvel that is…yes, you guessed it…water. We’ve had a little think and come up with some of our most loved songs, most of which we sing whilst dancing around our home water coolers, and sometimes in more public places…we hope you enjoy them too!
Bridge over Troubled Water- Simon and Garfunkel: Probably the most obvious choice, this classy number was penned in a tiny pub in Exeter, which overlooks a bridge and tiny stream. Interesting, eh?!
Purple Rain- Prince: Not necessarily environmentally accurate, but a corking tune, and certainly extremely catchy, nonetheless.
Nice Weather for Ducks- Lemon Jelly: This is the one that goes “All the ducks are swimming in the water” over and over…and it’ll definitely be in your head all day now. Sorry about that.
Let it Snow- Sammy Cahn: More about the joys of frozen water, but still a wonderful seasonal treat, and one certainly does feel Christmassy whenever it’s played.

It is widely known that the Greek God Poseidon was in charge of the seas and oceans all over the world, thus sailors travelling long distances were often at his mercy, and prayed for him to keep their journey smooth, without storms or other aquatic trauma. Integrated onto Mount Olympus, the home of the Olympians-the ultimate rulers-, as the brother of Zeus and Hades, Poseidon had a fair amount of power over mortals of the ancient world. Although back in the day, people setting off on voyages would pray or even sacrifice animals- sometimes those as big as horses-for Poseidon to have mercy on them, we feel that a much simpler way to give thanks to the guy in charge of water would be to invest in a home water cooler. This week, we are (still) celebrating/mourning the wedding of Michael Bublé and Luisana Lopilato around our home water cooler, who after being together two years are getting married in the very near future. Last we heard, the beautiful Michael was crooning “I just haven’t met you yet”, which was, and still is, entirely true- we were just waiting for him to come around the corner and realise that at least one of us was the partner of his dreams.  Apparently he had met her yet, we just didn’t know it. Towards the beginning of the year they were yet to set a date, but we’re sure it’ll be a massive party, particularly as their relationship got off to something of a rocky start. With an initial language barrier, with Mike not speaking any Spanish and Luisana no English, he spent all night talking to her bilingual male friend. Lopilato assumed that Michael was gay, and set her sights away from him. Luckily for her (not so much for us…bitter much? A little bit) things got put right and they’re completely in love.
