A recent article from the BBC warned people against drinking water from water coolers saying they were often contaminated with 23 out of 87 samples from dispensers in Edinburgh and the Lothian and Borders region showed bacterial contamination. However what this article failed to mention is that water coolers from The Water Cooler Company and The Water Delivery Company, two London based suppliers of water coolers, make it a priority to sanitise all units frequently to ensure all customers are drinking clean, fresh purified water at all times.
As a general rule, bottled water coolers should be sanitised every three months and plumbed in water coolers should have their filters changed every six months. It would seem people in the Edinburgh and the Lothian and Borders region were not following this advice and that is the simple reason behind why their water samples were showing contamination.
The article quoted Mary Lawton, from Consumer Focus Scotland as saying a review of the law governing the quality of water from coolers was needed.
“While there are regulations for bottled water, these are applicable at time of bottling and there is no legislation specifically for plumbed-in water coolers,” she said.
“The time is right for an awareness campaign, not just to get organisations to make sure coolers on their premises are cleaned and maintained regularly but also to get people to use them in such a way that they don’t contaminate them for the next person.”
You can be sure any coolers rented or purchased from The Water Cooler Company or The Water Delivery Company will be sanitised regulary. To find out more please contact HomeWaterCoolers.co.uk on 0845 006 3309 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
